One of my favourite guilty pleasures (beside reality tv and trashy magazines) is sitting on the couch and getting lost in Pinterest.
I was having a lazy morning and came across this recipe for a Cinnamon Bun Cake.
It looked so yummy that I decided to make it.
Thank goodness for still having baking leftovers from Christmas in the pantry.
The recipe I listed above is very basic and I added some extra instructions below for ease of use.
Great for a Bunch Cinnamon Bun Cake Recipe
Ingredients
Base:
3 cups White Flour
1/4 teaspoon Salt (I used sea salt but table salt is fine)
1 cup White Sugar
4 teaspoons Baking Powder
1 1/2 cups Milk
2 Eggs
2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
1/2 cup Butter (Melted)
Topping:
1 cup Butter (Softened)
1 cup Brown Sugar (Lightly Packed)
2 tablespoons White Flour
1 tablespoon Ground Cinnamon
Glaze:
2 cups Icing Sugar (also called Powdered Sugar)
5 tablespoons Milk
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Preheat oven to 350F.
Butter a 9 x 13 baking pan and set aside.
To create the base of your cake mix all of the base ingredients together except butter. Once the base is thoroughly mixed add the melted butter. Pour into your prepared pan, making sure the base is even.
In a separate bowl (or the same you used for the based but thoroughly cleaned) mix all of the topping ingredients together.
Spread the butter mixture evenly over the base mixture in your pan.
Using a butter knife swirl the topping into the base.
The more you swirl the topping into the base the better your end product will look.
Bake for 28-30 minutes.
Prepare the glaze by mixing the glaze ingredients together.
Remove from oven and let the cake cool for 5 minutes on a cooling rack.
While the cake is still warm use a butter knife to poke holes in the base.
Spread glaze evenly over the base while the cake is still warm.

Oh, wow. This looks DELICIOUS! I think I need to make this…
Sounds delicious! I love cinnamon. Do you think you can use whole wheat flour instead of white?
I think it would be fine. It’s a fairly dense cake so I do not think whole wheat would affect it much. If you are concerned about it being too dense I would mix at least a 20/80 ratio of white flour to whole wheat. If you try it let me know how it turns out 🙂
That looks & sounds DELICIOUS! Don’t mind me as I lick my screen. 😉
Ha! That is one way of getting it clean 🙂
What a wonderful recipe! I’m hosting a brunch a few weeks from now, and this is definitely going on the menu!
It makes a lot. You could probably give some as leftovers and it keeps really well. We left ours on the counter for a few days unwrapped it was still very edible.
This made my mouth water! I am pinning this recipe!! Thank you so much!
I love that you can whip this up with ingredients that you probably already have on hand!
Looks so good! I’ll make it soon!
