How To Stay Properly Hydrated This Summer

When the temperatures get hot, it is important that you keep your body hydrated whether you are engaging in sports, taking a road trip in the car or just enjoying the sun in your backyard. Here are some ways to stay properly hydrated this summer.

Drink Water on a Regular Basis

You should constantly stay hydrated throughout the day by drinking a glass of water when you wake up in the morning.

Also, carry around a bottle of fresh water with you during the day so you can remain hydrated.

In addition, drink some water after you urinate so that you replace the fluids you have just eliminated.

Jazz up Plain Water

If you get bored with plain ole water, try adding some natural flavorings to it.

You can add things like grapefruit wedges, lime wedges, cucumber slices, watermelon chunks or mint leaves.

Don’t forget the Electrolytes

Sports drinks like Powerade and Gatorade are excellent for preventing dehydration.

When our body sweats, it loses both water and electrolytes. Sports drinks contain a great deal of electrolytes.

Drink some Coconut Water

Coconut water contains an array of vitamins and minerals are is low in calories.

In addition, coconut water has essential electrolytes to help replenish what your body may have lost.

Eat some Popsicles

Popsicles are ideal for quenching your thirst, not to mention they are sweet and cool.

What this means for you is that they are a great way to make sure you stay hydrated.

Drink and Drink some more when Exercising

When you are exercising, a good rule of thumb to follow is to drink at least 8 ounces of water 20 minutes before you start exercising.

Drink 8-10 ounces of water every 15-20 minutes while you are exercising.

And drink at least 8 ounces of water within 30 minutes of exercising.

Eat some High Water Content Fruits and Vegetables

There are several fruits and vegetables that contain a lot of water so you can stay hydrated.

These include strawberries, cantaloupe, grapefruit, oranges, lemons, limes, watermelon, cabbage, squash and spinach.
