When we think about going on vacation, we typically imagine hopping on a plane and jetting off to some faraway location but we have some convincing reasons Why You Should Take Your Car With You On Vacation.

And while that formula works well most of the time, there’s no substitute for being able to take your car with you if you can.

Obviously, if you’re crossing the Atlantic, then putting your car on a ferry isn’t practical.

Waiting two weeks for it to arrive and paying for the transport fee probably isn’t worth it.

But if you’re just hopping across the border and don’t have to travel anywhere by sea, it can be a great idea.

Not only is it affordable compared to say, a long-haul flight, but it is also more practical.

Here are some of the reasons Why You Should Take Your Car With You On Vacation.

It’s Comfortable

Getting around on public transport or using a bicycle is okay.

But when you are on vacation, you want a little luxury in your life.

You want the comfort of a regular private vehicle instead of the plastic seats of the local bus.

Bringing your car with you is especially great if you’re travelling with other people.

It means that you can all comfortably travel together and you’re not each paying for tickets individually.

You also get to enjoy some of the simple pleasures of travel.

Things like plenty of space for your luggage and being able to stop for bathroom breaks whenever you want them can add to your experience tremendously.

Public transport options for you to stick to the beaten track. But when you take your car with you, you’re free to explore however you like, just like the locals.

Finding new destinations can be a lot of fun, both in city and country driving and learning to travel with your children is a great family experience.

When you have a car, it is much easier for you to explore the wilderness and find areas of stunning natural beauty that nobody else goes to.

So long as there’s a nearby road, you can find these places.

It’s Way Cheaper

If you’re the kind of person who loves deals on the cheapest number plates, then taking your car on vacation should appeal to you.

Financially speaking, it’s one of the cheapest ways to travel, particularly if you share the costs of fuel and depreciation with other people.

The use of the car itself is free.

All you need to do is split the cost of fuel and depreciation between you and your passengers.

If you travel with four people and running your car costs $0.60 per mile, then you are only paying $0.15 per mile which is almost nothing.

It’s More Convenient

Making sure that you get back in time for your bus, train or plane connection is one of the most stressful aspects of travel.

You have to constantly plan your itinerary around somebody else’s timetable.

However, that’s not true when you take your car on vacation with you.

You’re free to travel at your leisure, even during the middle of the night.

Your leisure time is valuable.

Time wasted on vacation feels like a terrible loss.

You know that experiences like these are a rare part of your life – something that won’t happen very often.

So hanging around for transfers can feel like a terrible waste of time.

When you have your own car, you don’t have to follow anyone else’s plan.

You can do things according to your own routine.

Adventure travel often requires bringing a lot of equipment with you.

Mountain bikes, skis, and kayaks all take up a lot of space.

Technically, you can bring them with you on public transport, but it’s a hassle.

Plus, if you’re bringing a bicycle, you need to pack all your tools as well, which adds extra luggage.

When you have a car, though, you’re essentially bringing portable storage with you.

You can put the bikes on the roof or the back and then all your tools in a separate box in the trunk.

Many vehicles also come with fold-down sections at the back for skis.

These let you transport them inside the cabin instead of trying to fit them to the roof.

Needless to say, it makes getting through customs far easier.

You Always Have A Backup

Lastly, bringing your vehicle with you gives you a backup.

If something goes wrong while travelling, you can just hop in the car and find help.

For instance, if you run out of food, you can just drive to the nearest store and pick up snacks.

You aren’t continually planning for every contingency.
