Dog Hair Fun Facts
- Is it hair or fur? Dogs like Labrador Retrievers have fur coats which are double coats (soft fur short inner coat and short hair outer coat). A Poodle is a single coat dog and is referred to as a hair coat.
- What dog breeds shed the least? Experts agree that Terrier’s and Poodles’s top the list and some unusual breeds like the Brussels Griffon and the Portuguese Water Dog make the list.
- What dog breeds shed the most? Well I don’t know . . . but I’ve been told. Our Labrador Retriever officially ranks 3rd for shedding as a breed but definitely ranks 1st in my opinion. Diesel has more hair than Drake has Gold Records. Let’s put Diesel’s shedding into perspective; remember the Peanuts comic strip character “Pig-Pen” – always walking around with a dust cloud following him? Well this is our Diesel – just substitute the dirt for hair and that’s him!
- What does Hypoallergenic mean? Dogs with Hypoallergenic hair are less likely to cause an allergic reaction but does not mean allergy-proof. Hypoallergenic breeds tend to shed the least.
How to Remove Dog Hair in your House?
First it is important to understand that most people choose a dog because they love a certain breed (we love Labrador’s) so we choose to live with the extra work.
I vacuum every day and this photo shows the amount of hair we collected while vacuuming in one day.
It is important to select a vacuum that is powerful and versatile by having all the attachments you need to remove dog hair from your home.
We talked about how easy the Dyson Ball™ Animal 2 assembles – it only took 5 minutes. Check out the story here.
Your Vacuum must have the Strongest Suction
Hair has a way of weaving into carpet and fabric. You need a vacuum with the strongest rated suction available in the market to remove embedded hair.
My experience in the past 15 years is that the Dyson Ball™ Animal 2 has the most powerful suction of any vacuum we have ever used or owned.
Reach all the places hair collects in your Home
The Dyson Ball™ Animal 2 has a self-adjusting cleaner head that adjusts to different floor types.
We have tile, hardwood and carpet on our main floor and this vacuum adjusts seamlessly to each floor type.
So our home is completely furnished (code for over-furnished) so we have a lot of furniture to vacuum around and get under.
Ball™ technology gives me the flexibility to go around and under the variety of obstacles in my home.
Also the instant-release wand lets me get into all the crevasses and corners that dog hair collects.
As I mentioned earlier, dog hair loves to weave in to fabric.
We have a huge fabric upholstered sectional that Diesel loves to rub up against likes cats do.
The only problem, Diesel is 110 pounds and moves the furniture and deposits a million hairs with each visit.
The Tangle-free Turbine tool removes his hair in seconds.
It cleans up our sectional in about 5 minutes and used to take 30 minutes without this tool.
Finally, the attachment Diesel loves is the Groom tool.
This amazing tool removes hair from our dog and is designed to release hair from the tool brushes and allow the vacuum to take it to the waste canister.
Dyson Ball™ Animal 2 leaves nothing behind!
Many Dyson products have won the Parent Tested Parent Approved (PTPA) Seal of Approval.
This means that people like me have put these Dyson products through difficult tests.
The Dyson Ball™ Animal 2 continues to amaze me with respect to ease of assembly and it’s consistent ability to remove Dog hair.
Through two months of continuous use I cannot make a recommendation to change or improve this vacuum.
Check out our previous article for a detailed review of the assembly and set-up – it is a quick and valuable read.
