Easy Popcorn Candy Necklace Edible Craft

Recommended for ages three and up (gummy bears could be a choking hazard)

A perfect treat to celebrate National Popcorn Day on January 19th!

Materials Needed for the Popcorn Candy Necklace:

Wide eye safety needle

Spool of thread

Popped popcorn

1 Small bag of gummy bears

Handful of cheerios

Note* the amount of popcorn, gummy bears, and cheerios needed will depend on how many kids make necklaces.

For two necklaces, we used less than 1 cup of Cheerios, half a bag of gummy bears, and half a bag of popcorn.

Instructions

Measure out a piece of thread, ensuring it’s twice the length you need, giving you extra material.

Fold the thread in half, effectively doubling it, and securely tie a knot at the folded end.

Cinch the knot tightly, repeating the process a few times to make sure it’s sufficiently larger than the eye of the needle, preventing it from slipping through during your work.

Thread the end opposite of the knot carefully through the eye of the needle.

String a few pieces of popcorn by inserting the needle into the middle and gently pulling it down the thread, creating a delightful popcorn garland.

Next, string a few Cheerios, adding a touch of wholesome charm to your creation.

When adding the gummy bear, you may find it helpful to have your child wear a thimble or push the needle through on a hard surface to navigate its texture.

The gummy bears present a challenge; their chewy consistency might require more effort to push the safety needle through.

Continue threading the popcorn, candy, and Cheerios onto the thread, creating a colorful and tasty garland that will stretch along the thread’s length.

As you near the end of the thread, you can leave some space, providing room to tie a secure knot that will keep your creation intact.

Once you’ve threaded all your treats and reached the end, bring the two ends of the thread together and tie them securely, forming a loop.

Now, it’s time to call a friend, pick out a movie, and indulge in the delightful combination of sweet and salty snacks as you enjoy your homemade creation.
