Why Thumbprint Art is a Favorite

This Thumbprint Art Rainbow St. Patrick’s Day Craft is a favorite because I love fingerprint art. I enjoy rainbow colors, which adds to my enthusiasm.

Creating a Rainbow Keepsake

To make this keepsake, children create a rainbow using thumbprints. You can use any fingerprint, but we chose thumbprints. It’s a great St. Patrick’s Day craft to hang on the wall.

The Joy of Thumbprint Art

Thumb print art is super fun and helps kids explore creativity. This art uses unique fingerprints to create vibrant artwork, making each piece unique.

As kids press their thumbs onto the canvas, they create a print and leave a mark of individuality.

Simplicity and Joy in Creation

The beauty of this fun thumbprint artwork lies in its simplicity and the joy it brings to creators and viewers. Children can create a masterpiece with a few paint and paper colors.

It serves as a cute gift and a cherished memory. This activity suits kids of all ages and engages them in a fun, educational project.

Learning Through Art

Thumb prints art also teaches kids about colors and patterns. As they mix shades, they learn about color combinations and stunning visual effects.

This hands-on experience enhances their understanding of art and encourages creative thinking.

A Fun and Educational Activity

Fingerprint art is a fun and engaging activity for kids. It entertains them and helps them develop artistic skills, creating beautiful artwork they can be proud of.

It’s a fabulous way to spend fun quality time with your little ones and create lasting memories.

You will need:

  • White, black & yellow construction paper
  • Craft paints in the colors of the rainbow (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green. Blue, Indigo and Violet)
  • Stamp pads may be a better way.
  • A paper plate or paint palette
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • A black shapie

Instructions:

Squeeze a small amount of each color paint onto a paper plate or the spaces on your paint palette.

Have your little ones dip their thumb into the first color,  red,  and press it onto the paper.

Make a row of red thumbprints, and then do the same with the orange.

Do you have a trick to remember the order of colors for the rainbow?

I was taught to use “ROY G BIV.” Like a person’s name – what a great idea.

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

I repeat this to myself every single time I have to make a rainbow in a craft, kind of like singing the alphabet song to remember which letter comes next!

After your child has imprinted each color in the shape of a rainbow.

Cut a pot shape from the black construction paper.

Glue it at the base of the rainbow.

Cut a bunch of circles from the yellow paper and glue them on top of the pot.

There is your gold! (I wish it was that easy to get some gold!)

Add some grass to the bottom of your beautiful creation if desired.

Hang it on the fridge and hope that sneaky little leprechaun does not show up to your house to steal it !
