Are you a mom or single parent who is trying to save money this summer? Is it too tight to make a vacation at the beach or in the mountains a reality this year? Do you and your children need to get away from it all? If you need a vacation but maybe your credit cards are maxed out and cannot afford it, then a summer staycation is the perfect option for your family. You can make summer fun for you and your kids by following these quick tips for making the most of staying at home!
Schedule Structured Time for Relaxing
Sometimes the best part of vacation is the free schedule to get away from agendas. Create a relaxing environment in your home by making a “Summer Staycation” calendar. Ask your kids to write down the activities they would like to do at home during the days of your staycation. For example, they could block out the morning for painting on the porch and the afternoon for playing outside or in the sandbox. Get creative and make it fun by scheduling free activities for you and your children
To make it feel like a true vacation, you have to get outside of your house. Create a vacation-like atmosphere in your backyard. Set up a picnic lunch, inflate and fill the kiddie pool, hang a hammock beneath the backyard oaks, play games and go on walks. By creating a theme for your staycation and following through with that theme in your backyard, you will create the perfect respite for you and your children and enjoy spending time together in a creative, penny-pinching setting that will make you all feel good about staying put for the week!
