Switch out your bedding

Cotton and linen are lovely fabrics for your bed in the summer, but when it comes to winter, flannel is where it is at! Make the switch from your cool sateen sheets to ones made of a material that will keep the warmth in, such as flannel or jersey. While you are about it, fold a quilt or blanket over the foot of your bed and keep it there so you will have something ready for the coldest nights.

Throw in some cushions and pillows

At long last, a justification for splurging on a plush, sumptuous pillow! Put one or two throw pillows with a different texture on your couch, or switch out the covers on the pillows you already have, to make the room appear and feel more inviting. Also, do not forget to bring the faux fur throw.

Lay down a rug or two

When it is warm outside, a thin flat-weave rug is perfect, but in the winter, you will want something with a bit more pile. Consider stacking smaller area rugs in strategic locations such as next to the bed, under the coffee table, or in front of your favorite reading chair if you do not have the funds for a large area rug.

Display your lovely things

Even while they will not physically warm up your room, having a mantel filled with photos and things that make you smile will help keep your heart filled with warm memories as you make it through the following few months of dreary weather. If you haven't got a mantle, why not choose a modern sideboard to display things on?

Change out the window treatments

Consider replacing your sheer linen curtains with velvet drapes or any other heavy curtain with a thermal lining if you currently have sheer linen curtains. In addition to giving the impression of coziness and warmth, they will prevent chilly air from entering the room through drafty old windows.

Light it up

Because it becomes dark earlier in the evenings, your bed may start to look more appealing to you before it is actually time to go to sleep. If you have adequate lighting, you will be better able to fight off that temptation and keep to your regular sleep routine. Installing LED lights with a warm tone gives table lamps a brightness similar to that of a candle that is not overbearing but is yet bright enough to keep you awake.
