This five-step tutorial shows kids and beginners how to draw an apple with a rounded outline, a small stem, a leaf, and color. The shape does not need to be a perfect circle—small curves at the top and bottom help it look like an apple.
Drawing tip: Start lightly so you can adjust both sides of the apple before adding the stem and leaf.

How to Draw an Apple in 5 Easy Steps
Step 1: Draw the apple outline
Draw a rounded shape with a gentle inward curve at the top and bottom. Make one side slightly different from the other so the apple feels natural.
Checkpoint: Leave room above the apple for the stem and leaf.
Step 2: Add the top curve and stem
Deepen the small curve at the top, then draw a short stem rising from its center.
Step 3: Draw the leaf
Add two curved lines that meet at a point beside the stem. Draw one curved vein through the middle of the leaf.
Step 4: Erase extra lines
Remove any guide marks that cross the final outline. Check the top curve, bottom curve, stem, and leaf before tracing the finished shape a little darker.
Step 5: Add color
Color the apple red, green, yellow, or a blend of colors. Leave a small light area on one side to suggest a shiny surface.
Quick Fixes
- The apple looks like a ball: add a shallow inward curve at the top and a smaller one at the bottom.
- The sides look uneven: compare the widest point on each side and redraw lightly before coloring.
- The leaf looks flat: curve the center vein and add two or three short side veins.
Apple Drawing Variations
Turn the same outline into a green apple, a sliced apple, or a smiling cartoon character. Add a basket, classroom desk, or simple orchard background to create a complete scene.
