With the cold weather here, soup is on the menu a lot and with it is Homemade Dinner Rolls.
My family loves fresh dinner rolls to go with our soup, but I don’t always have them in house, and I have always been afraid of baking bread at home.
It’s time consuming right? Well, yes and no.
Fresh dinner rolls are very easy to make at home.
They do take a bit of time, but they are totally worth it.
I use this recipe to make dinner rolls, and hamburger buns.
Bake up a double batch and freeze what you don’t use.
What you will need:
- 1 Tbsp. Active dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 Tbsp. oil
- 2 Tbsp. honey
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. melted butter
In a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook add in the warm water and sprinkle the yeast into the bowl.
Set aside for 10 minutes until the yeast starts to foam.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flower and salt.
Combine milk, egg, oil and honey together in another small dish.
Make sure to mix well.
Turn the mixer on low and add the dry ingredients and the wet ingredients to the yeast mixture.
Knead until the dough pulls away from the bowl.
Turn out onto floured surface and knead by hand for 8 – 10 minutes.
Return to bowl, cover and let rise for 1 hour.
Punch down dough and turn out onto light floured surface.
Cut dough into 8 equal parts (for hamburger buns) or 12 equal parts for dinner rolls.
Roll each piece into a ball and place on a lined 9 x 13 Pyrex pan lined with parchment paper Cover again and let rise additional 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Butter the tops of each bun or roll and bake for 15 – 18 minutes. Or until golden brown
Serve immediately or cool and store in an airtight container.
