I am a brand new mom of a 5 day old daughter. Even before I gave birth, I knew I wanted to breastfeed and hoped that I could.
However, the idea of breastfeeding seems so natural that I thought my daughter would be born and my body would automatically know how to breastfeed.
It’s not quite that easy (well for me anyways).
I had a planned cesarean and I have a larger chest (thanks to genetics and pregnancy), so finding a comfortable position was not that easy.
Thanks to the support of the nurses at the hospital, my midwife and my other new mom friends, I finally started to get the hang of it…well on one side anyways.
New Mommy Solutions: Avent Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump
Honestly, I had a hard time getting my milk to come in on my right breast.
However, that is where my Avent Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump came in.
It’s great because it is lightweight and fully compact, fitting into a smaller size bag (that comes with it) which will be easy to bring around with me.
The lightweight compact design is also nice because it helps to make the pump more discreet which is a great feature for any mom (especially those who continue to pump after going back to work).
Massage Cushion
What is particularly great about this pump, is that the massage cushion is the largest cushion available that fits the Avent Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump.
This is great because I do have a larger chest, and I am getting more efficient stimulation when using it.
Now saying that, there is an easy fix for those moms that are too big for the massage cushion.
You simply contact Philips support and order a smaller size.
The massage cushion is also great because it includes innovative “ massaging petals” which mimic your baby’s natural sucking reflex.
This feature is a major help in stimulating letdown and milk flow.
Pump One or Both at The Same Time
I also really like that I have the option to pump one breast at a time or both at once.
I have a back injury so this pump is a great option for me. The unique design allows me to sit upright while expressing my milk.
This is much easier on my back then having to lean forward in an uncomfortable position while pumping.
I still need to work on my technique for pumping both breasts at the same time. Starting the pump when my hands are full is a little tricky. I’m sure practice will make perfect.
I haven’t used my pump much just yet because I am still establishing a breastfeeding schedule. And I don’t want to introduce bottles just yet, I am so glad I have one.
It is a helpful option in these early days when you are working to get your milk to come in.
Although a breast pump does not replace the natural stimulation of your baby nursing, it can help get your milk started as well as help you to continue breastfeeding even when (or if) you go back to work.
