There is nothing that screams “childhood!” like a delicious, creamy caramel apple. This homemade caramel apple recipe will be one you’ll keep on hand for family gatherings and for parties of all kinds!
The caramel is ooey gooey and soft on your teeth, the crisp apple makes for the perfect vessel.
First wash your apples and dry well. Remove the stems from the apples and place them in a bowl in the freezer.
Chop up your peanuts, if wanted, and place into a shallow bowl.
Lay out a sheet of aluminum foil and coat with butter. Place into a cake pan or on a cookie sheet. Set aside.
Grab your dowels, skewers, popsicle sticks or forks as your handle.
1.5 cups whipped cream
1 cup white sugar
2/3 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 tablespoon butter
Place the cream, sugars and corn syrup in a large pot on medium heat. Mix together until the consistency is smooth. Use a pastry brush dipped in water to wash down the sugar crystals
from the side of the pot after each time you stir.
Mix caramel only until it begins to boil. Then don’t touch!
While it’s boiling remove your apples from the freezer and place in the center of each, where the stem was, a popsicle stick, dowel or even a fork!
Let your caramel boil until it reaches 240*, about 10-12 minutes. Remove from heat and mix in the sugar, vanilla and butter.
Mix until smooth.
Tip your pot of caramel to the side so it all runs to one side. Grab your first apple on a stick and place it into the caramel, rolling it until it’s fully coated in carael. Shake off the excess by spinning it between your fingers.
If you are using a topping on your apples roll the apple in your topping.
Place onto the buttered aluminum foil.
Repeat with all apples.
Place in the fridge for ten minutes to set the caramel.
