Tips for Traveling Overseas

Taking a trip abroad is exciting and invigorating! Traveling is a great way to take in new cultures, experience the wonders of the world, and delight in scenic adventures. Whether you are traveling for a vacation, honeymoon, or just to travel the world, there are a few tips you should keep in mind:

Tips for Traveling Overseas

Check Your Passport

You may be able to get overseas, but if your passport expires while you’re gone, you can have a difficult time getting back home. Check your passport and make sure it is up to date.

Bring Gum

This is not always on the list, but it should be especially if you will be flying. The different air pressure can make your ears pop, but chewing gum can help prevent your ears from popping as bad.

Secure an IDP

An international driving permit (IDP) is a document that allows you to drive in other countries. You can get an international driving license online or through your local auto club. While you may be able to get by without an IDP in some countries, it’s always best to play it safe and get one before you go to avoid any potential problems or penalties for driving without a valid license.

Look up Money Conversions

Some exchange rates are drastically different. Before you go, check the exchange rates so you know how much money to bring, and how much you will actually be spending.

Let Your Bank Know

If you take off to another country, and you use your bank or credit card, your bank could put a lock on your account. Be sure to call your bank ahead of time and let them know where you will be going, so no matter where you are, you will have the funds you need.

Check Electronic Capabilities

Some places don’t have the same electrical outlets for phones and electronics. Check the hotel you will be staying at to see if you need to bring adapters. You don’t want to be stuck in an unknown area without your phone.

Buy Tickets in Advance

A good way to get the most “bang for your buck” is to buy tickets early. If you are planning a trip in 6 months, start looking for hotels, airfare, and car rentals now. The sooner you look and purchase your trip, the less expensive it will be.

Bring Cash

Not all places take a credit card or debit card. Be sure to bring extra cash with you, so you can grab a taxi, take the bus, or get some food while you’re wandering about a new place.

Traveling overseas is an exciting adventure, but it is important to be prepared for all the unforeseeable. Think ahead, plan for the worst, and hope for the best, and you will be sure to have an amazing trip! Also keep these tips in mind if you are travelling alone.
