I am travelling alone today to to get some Mom alone time.
I had originally planned on bringing my husband and 5 children, but at the last moment, I changed my mind.
In light of the change in plans I decided to document my findings on the differences I encountered.

The Best Things About Travelling Alone
I could choose MY radio station on SiriusXM
I LOVE Sirius Hits 1 on Channel 2 and I am a big country fan, and love The Garth Channel on channel 55 so I cranked it up LOUD and heard no complaints!
When arriving at my hotel, I made only one trip in from the car
Let’s face it, kids have STUFF! Some of the stuff that always needs to come to hotels with us include pool toys, entertainment devices, sleep sacs, woombies and of course, my stroller.
These things are very important, but, tonight, I only brought in one carry-on suitcase (and my laptop and camera, I am at a blogging conference).
After checking in, I could head up to my room and just hung out here for a while
When travelling with the kids, I IMMEDIATELY must change into my swimsuit and check out the pool.
I will likely take a calming trip to the Jacuzzi later on, but for now, I can relax, write a post and enjoy some wine.
The whole room doesn’t need to shut down at 830pm
I can stay up as late as I like, head next door to the casino, enjoy room service, take a bath at 9:30PM (I know, living life on the wild side).
I have to set the alarm!
Imagine, not being awoken by a child? I know it hasn’t happened to me in about 18 months. And then, only twice.
This is one thing that people definitely take for granted! I can’t wait to hear that ‘beep, beep, beep’ in the morning.
I’m curious, what do you look forward to most when you are travelling alone?

Oh, my. Oh, so true! This makes me really want to go on an overnight trip without my kiddos. 🙂
Staying up late and sleeping in!
I look forward to peace and quiet and reading a book!
My last work trip to a conference in San Fransisco was awesome: no kids, no husband, no fuss. I thought I would miss them more, but it was honestly the best 5 days I’d had in a long time! Absence makes the heart grow fonder I guess… I needed a little break!
I think 5 days is perfect, and likely the max I would enjoy. Dreaming…..
I would add having a bed all to myself. I co-sleep. I love sleeping with my daughter. But sometimes I do wish that I was not being pummeled all night.
I hear ya! As another co-sleeping mama, the uninterrupted sleep was amazing!
Having a shower or bath without interruption with the tv on in the background!! Sometimes ordering in breakfast to the room.
I never even thought of breakfast in bed! Next time for sure!
I use to find me time when my daughter went to bed at night. I would spend 20 minutes in the hot tub with a glass of wine and my book. I really miss that now that I have two. It just isn’t as easy to fit it in.
I hear ya! Although I have 3 that are 100% in bed by 8pm, the two little ones (14m and 3m) are a little less predictable!
I’ve travelled alone… and I have to say that I didn’t particularly enjoy it. 🙁 I spent too much time on the phone with the husband and the littles wanting them with me. Pro-tip to make hotel stays more comfortable: get a one bedroom hotel suite. Then there’s a comfy bed for you and the husband and the littles can sleep in the living room area. Bonus if you get a two bedroom hotel suite.
Its funny you say that. I didn’t follow up with the post, but the sleep I had that night was the WORST sleep I have had in a long time. I think I missed all of my bed-mates!
set the alarm so so so true!!!!… great read 🙂
Thanks for the comment! I needed that alarm!
I haven’t had a childless night in over 5 years. I’m not complaining but I’m thinking that with my boys now being 5 and 2.5, and both sleeping (mostly) on their own and through the night, it might be time. My head is reeling with the possibilities. Excitement, nervousness, to do lists…. I may need to have a chat with my husband this evening about it! Maybe I will get to experience “living on the wild side” a bit before the next baby turns things upside down again.
To answer your question: My time alone is spend reading. I read a lot lately. And I love it! Ebook bundles are becoming my best friend. Except now I have to try to organize and categorize them all so I actually know what I have and where to find it. Oh the reading I could do if my time was uninterrupted!
I look forward to the quiet!!!
Aaah, alone time! Sounds like you made the most of it. 🙂
I’ve never traveled alone before, but it sounds exciting and scary at the same time! I could definitely use a vacation, so I wouldn’t mind traveling alone if the opportunity came my way. ~lol~
Haha!! Such a difference! So glad you got a little break 🙂 I love not having to do so many trips to the car as well and the chaos of course of trying to get everyone into bed at a hotel after an exciting day!
For me it would definitely having the chance to take a peaceful shower (or two!) Great post!
Soooo true, it’s nice to have those little moments, sometimes I feel guilty at first, then realize it’s not going to happen that often, so enjoy!!
