What you will need:
- Fresh squeezed juice from one blood orange
- ice
- tonic water
- 4 oz. premium gin
- lime for garnish* optional
- Cutting board
- Sharp knife
Place ice into two glass tumbler. I use short glasses – add 2 oz of gin per glass.
Add a shot or two of blood orange juice, and top off with tonic. Give it a stir and enjoy!
You can add a wedge of lime if you wish, or a slice of blood orange.
To cut the perfect wedge of lime or blood orange just follow these simple steps.
First, make sure you remove the stickers off of the fruit.
Second, cut the ends off your lime or orange, and then cut it in half (length-wise).
Turn the halves cut-side down on your cutting board.
Make two or three cuts through each citrus half (again length-wise).
Two cuts will make six wedges per piece of fruit.
With three, you will have eight.
Cut away any scraggly ends or seeds.
Lastly, cut a slice down the center of the fruit (width-wide) so you can perch it at the rim of the glass.
Feel free to substitute vodka for gin.

If you cannot find blood oranges, fresh navel oranges would be delicious, or a mixture of orange and grapefruit.
I’ve made this with vodka as well and it’s delicious.
