Planter for Sun and Shade beside a Fence
The fence gives the Persian Shield great support. You also benefit from an explosion of color on the fence.
In the winter I replace the plants create a winter themed planter.
So now I will show you step by step how to make this planter.
First you need a planter container with enough depth to allow the root system to grow and support the weight of mature plants.
Persian Shield
This is Persian Shield, it’s a great “thriller” plant. It is a stunning combination of purple, green and silver.
It can grow 18 – 36 inches high and spread 18 -24 inches.
Persian Shield is heat tolerant and easy to maintain.
Dusty Miller
The Dusty Miller is a filler plant and will grow to 4- 8 inches.
Dusty Miller is easy to maintain and thrives in the sun.
Coleus
Coleus is a “filler” plant.
They are a wonderful filler plant and come in many different colors, leaf shapes and forms.
Begonia
Begonia is another awesome filler plant with it’s own unique color pallet.
Buying Tip! I bought this basket because it had 3 begonia plants in it.
I separated them and planted each one in a planter.
This is a great way to save money at the basket cost $9/ 3 and they were a good size.
It’s impossible to buy 3 separate plants at this price.
Sweet Potato Vine
Sweet Potato Vine, is an amazing spiller.
It grows fast and flows almost like a vine (hence “spiller” name).
Final infant product a beautiful colorful Planter for Sun and Shade beside a fence.
We have one planter at the middle point of each 8 feet section of fence.
This spacing provides a very consistent look across the fence line and helps set off the hanging plant baskets.
We were thrilled with the results and plan to continue the exact same arrangement again next summer.
