How To Make Your Lipstick Last Longer

I hear this often, “How do I make my lipstick last longer? It always wipes off within the first hour of wearing it!” Ladies, we are all busy in our own ways. We are mommies, wives, or on the go. We don’t have time to reapply our lipstick every half hour. The truth is that it will not last 24 hours (not that you would need it to), but I can give you some tips on how to make lipstick last longer!

How To Make Your Lipstick Last Longer

 Tip #1: Exfoliate Your Lips

First of all, if your lips are dry at all you need to make them as smooth as you can before applying your lipstick. The best way to get rid of dry lips, or dead skin on your lips, is to exfoliate them. There are a lot of great lip scrubs on the market, just makes sure the ingredients are all natural because you want your lip hydrated, not dried out even more.

 Tip #2: Use Lip Liner

I know a lot of women stay far away from lip liner because using it in the wrong way can be a very bad beauty mistake. I am going to suggest that you use it in an unorthodox way. Pick a lip liner color that is similar to the color lipstick that you want to use. Fill in your lips fully with this lip liner, just as your would with lipstick. Now apply your lipstick over the liner. This is a guaranteed way to keep the color on your lips longer!

 Tip #3: Use a Tissue

After applying your first coat of lip stick, press your lips down on a tissue to remove the excess lipstick. You will notice the fibers from the tissue on your lips. That’s okay. It’s actually perfect. Now, reapply your lipstick over the first coat and the fibers. You will notice your lipstick color building. Not only is the color building, so it the strength of the lipstick.

Tip #4: Use a Finishing Powder

You can use a white or a light finishing powder that you would typically use on your face. Using a large makeup brush, dust the powder onto your lipstick very lightly. This will not only make your lip color last, it will give your lip color a matte (dry) finish.

Tip #5: Use a Matte Lipstick or Lip Stain

This is one of the most important tips in my opinion. For a guaranteed long lasting lipstick, just use a matte lipstick or a lip stain. Since matte lipsticks and lip stains always have a dry finish, they do not wipe off as easily as a lip-gloss, lip butter, or a shine lipstick. I wear matte lippies or lip stains, along with following the other 4 steps and my lip color lasts a good 6-8 hours.

I hope these steps help all of you hopeless lipstick lovers out there! You can try all of these steps or just do a few at a time. Either way, your lip color is guaranteed to last longer than it would without following these steps. When it comes to trying new beauty ideas out, I always say that practice makes perfect. Everyone’s results are different; so keep trying to see what works the best for you!
