I love Fall, not that we really have seasons down here, but I like the food and specially Homemade Apple Butter.
I also, really, really love apple butter, but I’m not a fan of what I can find in the local grocery store.
So I figured I would find an easy homemade apple butter recipe and take a stab at it.
Some people really want you to slave over a stove for hours to make this.
Not me… I don’t have time for that. So I found an easy, peasy crock pot recipe.
The original recipe was HUGE, so I cut it half. Seriously, who needs that much.
Homemade Apple Butter in a Crock pot
INGREDIENTS:
6 pounds Golden Delicious apples –
peeled, cored and sliced
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1-1/2 cups white sugar
|
1/2 cup brown sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
|
1. | Place apples and vinegar into a large slow cooker, and place lid on top. Set on High, and cook for 8 hours, then turn to Low, and continue cooking 10 hours more. |
2. | After 18 hours, stir in white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, clove, and allspice, and cook 4 hours more. |

I have never made apple butter but I totally think I can handle it with this recipe! Thanks for sharing 🙂
I thought it was going to be really complicated, especially with all the recipes that want you standing over a stove and stirring. This was super easy and required almost no effort.
Apple Butter is AMAZING! I absolutely love it and so does my family. I never thought of trying to make it myself though. I’m going to have to try out this recipe–especially for my brother who LOVES anything apple. It seems easy enough to make, so now I just have to go shopping for ingredients!
This is by far the best apple butter I have ever had!
This looks great! I loved apple butter as a kid but haven’t had it in many years. I may have to try this
What a delicious recipe! I am adding it to my recipe book now! I cannot wait to give it a try! Thanks for sharing!
This looks simple enough, and I know the kids would love to help!
This sounds great! Our little one has dairy allergy and it stinks not being able to have butter on toast. I bet this tastes amazing and it’s even good for you and allergen free. I’m adding this to my weekend project list 🙂
Isn’t the crock pot great. My sister blogged about making peach butter this last week in the crock pot. http://sistersplayinghouse.com/2013/10/crockpot-vanilla-peach-butter.html
Thanks for sharing your post with us. We love the crockpot too!

Someone recently shared this awesome looking crockpot apple butter recipe on my facebook page. My only question is what would I use for jars? I am not a canning person so would I use canning jars & will they just seal on their own or do I need to use some other process to seal? Any suggestions on number of jars required & sizes? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. They can be sent to my e-mail or facebook page.
Hello and thanks for the very easy sounding recipe. I’m wondering if it makes much difference if you use other kinds of apples? Someone recently gave me a bag of apples and I have no idea what kind they are supposed to be. I know that they are not red or yellow delicious, granny smith or macintosh.
I had never tried apple butter before but I like apple, so this must.
Thanks for the recipe, we love apple butter and I look the crockpot recipe.;

I’ve never made apple butter before, but making it in the crock pot sure makes it seem easy!

I love this recipe. Thanks for sharing at Inspire Me Monday link party.
I would like to try this recipe. Does the butter need to be put in canning jars and can other kinds of apples be used? Also, is that much sugar really necessary? This will be my first time making such a food and it seems to be very easy.
Hi Dora – just use this recipe as a guide experiment. We din’t use butter in the canning jars and we have tried other apples like McIntosh and yes you can cut back on sugar to your own taste – Enjoy !!
