Whether you want to snack on these crispy fried onion strings, or add them a BBQ burger, or even to a salad, you will not be disappointed with these crunchy little onion strings – and they will not last long!
I paired these with homemade pulled pork sandwiches and they were a great addition.
Also have used them in my green bean casserole – and well, they make a great little snack as well. Serve them with some ketchup, and you have yourself a great midnight snack.
And, I would keep these in an airtight container and would not keep them for more than a few days.
What you will need:
- 1 or 2 medium onion; cut in half, then sliced thin
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp. paprika
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- oil for frying
Crispy Fried Onion Strings
Heat oil over medium heat in a heavy bottom skillet.
Place onions into the buttermilk and let sit for about 5 minutes.
Combine flour, salt, pepper, paprika and garlic powder together.
Dredge the onion into the flour mixture and working in small batches, fry until golden brown (about 5 minutes)
Drain off on paper towel and serve with your favorite dipping sauce, or use in burgers, salads and casseroles.
Keep these crispy fried onion strings handy this Summer. They will be a great addition to your BBQ condiments!

These are our favorite! Can’t wait to try them!
Oh my no. Just no. I like to believe goodies like this can’t be made at home so I won’t be tempted to make them. Now you’ve done it… I want to make them and add them to a burger! Oh wait. You said I can add them to a salad!
These look so good. I am going to give them a try.
