What Can Your Scarves Do For You? Build an outfit from a scarf

If you’re anything like me, you find it difficult to pull out of a rut. I find myself wearing the same outfits time and time again. As demonstrated last month, one way to cure closet monotony is to challenge yourself to a capsule wardrobe. I have recently discovered another way to spruce up my outfits and force myself to wear a greater variety of pieces and colours, through the use of my trusty scarves.

Now, I love scarves. In fact, love is an understatement. I can’t help but repeat this sentiment any time this accessory comes up in my posts. I am obsessed with them! I adore draping a piece of art around my neck. It can make anything look put together and polished. So why not put these bad boys to work? Here’s how:

    • Choose a patterned scarf you have on hand
    • Pull the colours from it
    • Check out your wardrobe
  • Create an outfit using the colours from your scarf

You might end up with something like this:

Build an outfit from a scarf

So get out there (or in there, as it were), grab a fave scarf, pashmina or shawl, and build yourself a stunning background for that piece of drapey wonderfulness. Have some fun with it by mixing bold and subtle patterns, using more than one pop colour, and don’t forget those art classes from so many years ago (I’m talking, of course, about complementary colours). Unleash the artist within!

From my closet to yours,
