Baked Macaroni and Cheese with Ham

Macaroni and Cheese with Ham is a comfort food in our family. I make it at least twice a month. The boys love it, and I love that I can tweak it each time to make it a little different.

My children’s favorite extra is adding ham to it and then baking it.

They love the cheesy bits that get cooked on top, and then devour the rest of it.

You could add different veggies, or even a breadcrumb top. It’s a great versatile dinner.

Directions:

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

Cook macaroni until it’s tender but not overdone.

Drain and set aside.

In a medium sauce pan melt the butter, and add the flour and pepper to make a rue.

Cook on medium heat stirring frequently for 5 minutes.

Careful not to burn.

Slowly add in milk, followed by the cheese.

Whisk slowly until the cheese melts into the milk and rue.

Add onions and ham and cook on low for 5 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

In a large oven safe pot, mix together the macaroni and cheese sauce.

You can top it with extra cheese of you wish.

Bake for 30 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Let sit for 5 minutes and then serve.
