In my family, ice cream can be eaten year around; but of course, it tastes especially good in the summer.
My grandpa was a farmer, and he did not make a lot of money, but he would splurge and buy Schwan’s ice cream every summer for the root beer floats after working in the hay field. Being a lover of ice cream is a heritage that is passed down in our family. In fact, we even tease that it is our babies’ first food.
Even though you may be a lover of ice cream like I am, you may want to have something different sometimes or a kid-friendly treat that doesn’t require a bowl or a spoon.
Table of Contents
Here are 9 different cold (healthy and unhealthy), delicious treats for those hot days.
Ice Cream Sandwiches
Put ice cream between two homemade cookies, freeze, and pull out later for a yummy snack where no spoons or bowls are required.
Frozen Grapes
Wash the grapes. Place them in single layer on a cookie sheet or cake pan that has a lip. Freeze the grapes. After grapes are frozen, you can transfer them to a ziploc bag or to a container that has a lid. Eat whenever you have a craving for a cold treat!
Homemade Popsicles
There are molds you can buy to make your own popsicles or you can even freeze them in ice cube trays and let your children eat the popsicle ice cubes. Or put the juice cubes in with some juice to make a special drink! You can even buy your own plastic bags to make your own freezer pops! I never had heard of these zipzicles until my blogger friend on My Life Abundant did a review and a giveaway of them! When you make your own, you can make popsicles that are healthy!
Make Your Own Snow Cones.
Or How About A Homemade Slushy!
You Can Make “Homemade” Ice Cream.
Make A Smoothie!
Smoothies do not have to be “green.” But this is our favorite smoothie. The kids love it!
Prepare A Root Beer Float.
Scoop some ice cream in a cup and pour Root beer or any other flavor of pop that you like over the ice cream.
Make A Shake.
Our favorite is 2 cups of strawberry ice cream, 1 cup of strawberries, and 1 cup of milk all blended together.
What is your favorite treat to beat the heat?
Someof these sound really yummy! I remember Schwans ice cream from growing up too. Our favorites are homemade popsicles (orange juice and kombucha ones are highly requested flavors in my home), sun tea, and smooothies (frozen strawberries, banana, and milk in the vitamix, with a few variations). And refrigerated watermelon and grapes. Im going to try frozen grapes the next time I buy some though.
We really enjoy ice cream or fruit popsicles. I really have to try the frozen grapes – I’ve not done that yet.
I love homemade ice cream!! One of my all time favorite treats. My little ones gobble it up!! Great ideas. I have never made my own popsicles, but I think that is one I definitely want to try. Thanks, Tammy!
Great ideas! I remember buying ice cream from Schwans a few years ago but haven’t gotten a rep since we moved.
My favorite snack to beat the heat would be a chocolate dipped cone from our local ice cream shop. Addictive!
Homemade ice cream and slushy. Yummmmm…Thanks for sharing.
