5 Ways to Save on Back to School Shopping

As much as we might be enjoying the summer with our kids, it’s time to start thinking about ways to save on back to school shopping. (Cue ominous music.)

If you haven’t noticed, though, school supplies are getting more and more expensive.

School districts offer lists of supplies for each child and each grade, sf you have more than one child, stocking up can get costly.

Even homeschoolers can struggle to find enough school supplies to accommodate all of their kids.

Thankfully, though, there are plenty of great deals available!

Here are five ways to save on back to school shopping for your family this year!

5 Ways to Save on Back to School Shopping

Comparison Shop

Get a copy of every local store’s sales paper and compare prices.

That way, you’ll find the lowest price for the items you need.

  • Tip: Check online. Many stores offer free shipping and sales.
  • Perfect for those last minute school lists.

Ask Stores to Match Sales

Depending on the store, you might be able to get the manager to match the ad of another retailer in the area.

Take all of the sales papers with you to each store and see if they can match the other offers.

Hold Out just a Little

Sometimes we get so excited about what sounds like a great deal that we go and buy it right away.

If you wait a week or two, though, that same item may be marked down even further!

Last year, I bought a case of printer paper on sale for $35.

Two weeks later, the same case of paper was down to $20. I was not happy.

  • Tip: Some store will refund the difference if they drop the price. Bring your receipt with you and ask.

Shop Online

Some of the major online retailers have special online sections just for back to school shopping.

Make a list of items you need and check online prices before heading to the store.

Start Small

You may be tempted to buy everything on the school supply list at the beginning of the year.

But if your child doesn’t have four packs of markers on the first day, it won’t be the end of the world.

Try to get at least one or two of everything on the list. But you can always buy more as the year goes on.
