The post has inspired me to write 5 Changes To Your Body During Pregnancy (That No One Ever Tells You About).
My pregnancy was planned but unexpected. I thought it would take months or years to get pregnant but I did on our first try.
When I became pregnant I had no idea what to do. I saw the positive on the test – freaked out a little – and called my sister.
I did not know what the next step was. They never show that part on TV or in movies.
Imagine me, talking to my younger sister who lived 18 hours away, trying to figure out what the next steps were.
I was googling everything you could think of.
In case you were wondering when you find out you are pregnant you make an appointment with your midwife or OB-GYN.
I knew a few things about being pregnant such as morning sickness (which I never had), cravings (poutine and slushees) and swelling of your hands and feet.
But there were things that no one told me about.

5 Changes To Your Body During Pregnancy (That No One Ever Tells You About)
Chloasma
You may have heard your hair thickens during pregnancy and your skin glows.
This is not always the truth. Pregnancy affects your skin and chloasma may appear.
Chloasma is brown patches of pigmentation appearing on your cheeks, forehead and neck.
It is caused by the increased production of melanin (the tanning hormone).
You can reduce its effects by wear SPF on sunny days.
Heartburn
I had a terrible case of heartburn during my pregnancy.
It was awful.
My midwife explained it to me this way.
During pregnancy your body is being fueled by hormones (progesterone) which is trying to open up your body to prepare for labour.
The hormones are so intense it can relax the valve that separates your gullet from your stomach.
This allows gastric acids to seep back up your gullet, causing heartburn.
You can reduce these effects by elevating your head while you sleep and eating smaller meals.
Gas
Progesterone is again to blame for increased gas during pregnancy.
Progesterone relaxes smooth muscle tissue throughout your body, including your gastrointestinal tract.
This relaxation slows down your digestion, which can lead to gas, bloating, burping, and flatulence and generally create miserable sensations in your gut, especially after a big meal.
You can reduce these effects by eating smaller meals and avoid wearing tight fitting clothes.
Lethargic
I was exhausted during my pregnancy.
Especially in months 2-5. I would go to sleep right after work at 6pm and wake at 7am to get ready for the next day.
I would sleep all the time. Some women feel exhausted their entire pregnancy.
You can reduce these effects by eating balanced meals and allowing yourself to get the extra rest you need.
Hemorroids
Suffering from hemorrhoids is a common changes to your body during pregnancy.
The pressure of the baby causes varicose veins that arise on the veins around the anus.
For those seeking a direct approach, a hemorrhoid ointment can be a practical addition to their care routine.
This type of ointment, applied as directed, can offer immediate relief and aid in the healing process.
